Best Place to Stay in Kenya’s Tsavo National Park

Where is the best place to stay in Kenya? Many travelers assume it’s somewhere in the Masai Mara, but it can get a little overcrowded over there. If your goal is to be completely surrounded by Kenya’s incredible natural surroundings and have more space to breathe, then the best place to stay is right here in Tsavo National Park.

Welcome, friends, to Finch Hattons! In my previous video on Tsavo National Park, I spent four days in the wonderful wilderness of Finch Hattons. In this blog post, I will delve deeper into Finch Hattons and why it is the ultimate destination for experiencing the beauty of Kenya.

Arrival at Finch Hattons

Melanie and I arrived at the Mtito Andei train station after a two-hour ride out of Nairobi. We were picked up by Matthew, our safari driver for the day, and embarked on a bumpy two-hour ride through the national park to reach Finch Hattons. Along the way, we were fortunate enough to spot zebras and giraffes, truly immersing ourselves in the wildlife.

Luxurious Accommodation

The rooms at Finch Hattons are simply the pinnacle of luxury. As someone who doesn’t often get to experience such opulence, staying at a place like this was a first for me. The suites are beautifully appointed and feature breathtaking views of the surrounding savannah. I only regretted not being able to spend more time enjoying our suite, sitting on the patio, and waiting for the hippos to come out to the watering hole. The serene silence of the surroundings was truly captivating.

Activities and Adventures

During our stay, there was an abundance of activities and adventures to embark on. On our first night, we had the privilege of participating in the Maasai Olympics and enjoyed a spectacular sundowner. The next day, we embarked on an early morning jungle trek through the cloud forest of Chyulu Hills. The lush greenery and diverse wildlife were a sight to behold.

Our third day was filled with a thrilling game drive from morning until evening across Tsavo National Park. We were able to witness incredible animal encounters and capture them on camera. On the fourth day, we even had the opportunity to hike a volcano and enjoy a bonus run around the local airstrip. The experiences were unforgettable.

Amenities and Culinary Delights

Although I didn’t spend much time in my room, I did have the chance to enjoy some of the other amenities offered by Finch Hattons. The gym and pool provided a refreshing break from our adventures. Meanwhile, Melanie indulged in a relaxing massage.

However, it was the food that truly left a lasting impression. At Finch Hattons, we were treated to a culinary journey spanning the globe. From Vietnamese delicacies to Mexican delights, the cooks at Finch Hattons showcased their expertise. And, of course, we couldn’t miss out on a home-cooked Swahili feast, which was a true highlight of our stay.

An Unforgettable Stay

Leaving Finch Hattons was bittersweet. The memories we made and the experiences we had will stay with us forever. Finch Hattons is a place where dreams come true, and we were lucky enough to have the opportunity to experience it. If you’re seeking a truly unforgettable stay in Kenya, I highly recommend visiting Tsavo National Park and making Finch Hattons your home away from home.
